The earthquake, measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale, struck the eastern part of the island. Rescue teams are working tirelessly to search for survivors trapped under collapsed buildings. The government has urged people to stay safe and follow evacuation procedures.

Three good words for EFL learners from this news are:

#3 Listen to a talk: AI

When the era of AI learning approaches, the ability for people to engage in lifelong learning and adapt flexibly becomes even more important.

The impact of AI on learning English includes the accessibility of various tools like CHATGPT and Monica, which are readily available on everyone's smartphones, enabling English learning anytime and anywhere.

AI tools can enhance bilingual teaching effectiveness, where teachers need only speak in Chinese, and AI tools can immediately translate it into perfect English.

One of the most surprising facts I've learned is that the potential disasters AI might bring in the future could outweigh its benefits. For instance, AI tools could potentially merge with war tools, or malicious individuals might exploit AI tools for criminal activities, such as scam groups stealing our data and using AI to impersonate ordinary people for fraud.

In this presentation, I became interested in AI-assisted learning tools. In Taiwan, most students need to improve their speaking abilities, and I personally struggle with speaking proficiency. The presentation introduced TalkPal, a speaking-related assistance tool, offering a free version where users can speak sentences into a dialogue window and receive corrected versions by clicking "feedback".

Another tool that left a deep impression on me is Monica. Although it's a paid tool, it helps summarize the content of videos, significantly speeding up the learning process. Furthermore, the video content can be customized according to individual preferences, making learning English more enjoyable.
